Residents Continue To Report Mailbox Crimes

As has been the case on several occasions recently, law enforcement officers took reports Tuesday on crimes involving residents’ mailboxes.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to a Mint Springs Road home at around 9:30 p.m.

The sixty-one year old victim reported that the mailboxes and one post were missing from both his home and the home of his son, who resides next door.

The victim reported hearing his dogs barking at around 9:30 the previous evening. He said he checked outside but did not hear or see anything amiss.

The reporting officer indicates that he began to check the area and was able to locate the son’s mailbox lying in a nearby field. He retrieved it and placed it back on its post.

The complainant’s mailbox was not recovered. He estimated its value at $100.
